Antique Victorian Mahogany & Red Leather Fireside, Library Chair / 2 of 2
Antique Victorian Mahogany & Red Leather Fireside, Library Chair
A stunning late Victorian fireside & library chair, believed to date from the late 19th, early 20th century. Hand tacked red leather on to a solid mahogany frame, this chair would add presence and grandeur to any room.
The chair has been thoroughly cleaned, with the wood oiled & waxed, the leather fed.
Please note the seat section has been reupholstered in faux leather, the back rest and arms are the original leather.
The chair is solid and firm with no movements at the joints. The leather on the backrest & arms is believed to be the original leather, this shows in the wear and patina on the edges and across the surfaces. The seat has been recently reupholstered in faux leather, this has a similar colour but with a mottled effect.
The chair has been used & loved and I suspect was a favourite fireside chair... The leather on the rear panel has been exposed to heat and has cracked, this has been fed and stabilised. There are some linear cracks the the seat back rest and a minor repair the the front leading seat edge.
There is some wear to the wood frame, with a small knock on either side of armrests.
Please see the photos for more details.
The chair measures;
- overall height 90cm
- overall width across the arms 63cm
- depth 59cm
