Antique Pressed Back Oak Dining Chair with Spindle Back & Pressed Oak Seat

This is a fabulous and elegant chair with the most beautiful detailing.

The chair is made of oak and in excellent condition for it's age; it has been gently cleaned, oiled and waxed and ready to be useful again - the chair is solid and true.

This style of chair were predominantly produced in American and Canada between approx 1880 - 1940, they were mass produced then sold via mail order. The Pressed Back name comes from the manufacturing process of the wood softened by intense steam heat, then a metal die was pressed into the wood, leaving the design imprint. Research tells us that at some point the original seat may have been rattan, but at some point was replaced by a pressed oak piece.

There are knocks and bumps as to be expected with a antique piece - on the legs in particular are areas where the original varnish has worn away - please see the photos for more details and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
