Antique Oak Grand Rapids Barrister Modular Two-Tier Stacking Bookcase Cabinet

This is a stunning Grand Rapids piece and is in excellent condition for its age and is solid and true.

As a piece of modular furniture it is almost like it's an original flat pack (I know, wash our mouths out!) - each part fits together with precision pieces of metal / slots. 

Grand Rapids is actually a town outside Michigan and gets its name from the Grand River and the rapids that helped the local furniture industry flourish with the transportation of logs. The Grand Rapids Furniture Association was established in 1931; where numerous furniture manufacturers in the Michigan area were authorised to use the triangular logo as a mark of quality. From the 1870s through to the 1930s Grand Rapids was the centre of the furniture industry - nowadays more well known for its office furniture.

The glass doors on this piece are fixed within and slide out up and over - it is the original glass that has gentle warps and occasional air bubbles. The wood has been gently cleaned and waxed - there are a few knocks and bumps within it adding to its character as a working piece of furniture.
